Philadelphia police officers gave crime prevention advice at a recent forum sponsored by the Chestnut Hill Community Association. A key recommendation was that people lock their cars and homes, and remove valuables from their cars when they exit them. Officers also spoke about a program to link home security cameras with the police department. If a crime occurs, police can obtain permission to view the footage, which may lead to faster arrests and prosecutions. Officers also discussed a program to help reimburse victims for stolen or damaged property, if it is not otherwise covered by insurance or court costs.
