To decrease your chances of becoming a victim of this crime, never post on social media that you are leaving your house unattended. Also, make sure you lock your house, garage doors, and vehicle doors. If you must hide gifts in the car, put them in the trunk rather in plain view. And most of all, if you see something suspicious, call the police immediately so they can follow up.
