Affordably Cheap Security For Your Own Room
Being an avid electronics geek I enjoy to build my own electronic gadgets wherever this was useful. I live in a guesthouse with my very own room but share living facilities with five different renters.
As soon as my room was ransacked and my personal safe was stolen I wanted right away to acquire a hidden camera system but did not have all that much cash. After reading relevant articles on the internet I made a decision to make my own diy dvr surveillance system.
I purchased a usb dvr from a friend at a reasonable price. It connects to your computer via a USB port and handles up to 4 cameras. I chose to get board cameras since they are super easy to hide.
The DVR supported 5 levels of quality to help save storage space and came built with a user-friendly interface. It also allowed me to view live video feeds or earlier videos over the internet.
It came with a complete suite of video playback features and could record to your personal computer hard drive USB stick Zip Drive or even to a CD. My aim when placing the cameras was to get the entire room covered.
The very first camera went into my desk lamp. One of the posts on my bed frame had an unobstructed view of the door to my room so I took it apart as well and mounted my second camera inside it.
I positioned the 3rd camera in a small statue which I had sitting on my shelf and the 4th one I hid by the Tv that came with my room. That way security cameras had my entire room covered.
After testing the cameras as well as the DIY DVR I let it run. The footage uncovered that a few of my flat mates had been coming into my room to steal things. Upon investigation by the cops I recovered my safe with its contents intact.
